The late afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the farm, turning the fields into a patchwork of amber and green. Branwen and Percy tiptoed closer to the mysterious hole, their hearts pounding with a mix of curiosity and anticipation. The air was thick with the scent of hay and earth, and the distant clucking of chickens added a lively rhythm to their adventure.
As they approached the edge of the clearing revealed by the hole, a massive, fluffy shape stirred beneath the canopy of wildflowers and tall grass. With a soft, sleepy snore, a giant bear unfurled from its nap, revealing thick, brown fur that shimmered in the sunlight. Its enormous belly rose and fell in gentle rhythm, and its snout twitched as it dreamt.
Percy’s eyes widened. “Wow, it’s even bigger than I imagined!” she whispered, her voice trembling with wonder.
Branwen stepped forward cautiously, trying to hide her nerves. “Do you think it’s dangerous?” she asked softly.
Percy shrugged, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. “Maybe, but I think it’s just a big, sleepy teddy bear!” She took a step closer, trying to suppress her giggles.
Suddenly, the bear let out a loud, goofy snort and woke up with a start. Its eyes blinked open slowly, revealing kind, gentle orbs that seemed to twinkle with curiosity. In the blink of an eye, the bear sat up, wobbling slightly, and then let out a loud, rumbling yawn. Its enormous paws scratched behind its ears, and it looked at the two children as if they'd just appeared out of nowhere.
Branwen and Percy froze, unsure whether to run or stay. But before they could decide, the bear let out a deep, goofy chuckle, causing both of them to burst into uncontrollable giggles. The bear tilted its head and gave a big, silly grin—showing off rows of gentle, rounded teeth.
Percy, still giggling, made a funny face. She scrunched up her nose, puffed out her cheeks, and waved her arms like a feather duster. “Hello, Mr. Bear! We’re friends!” she squeaked, trying her best to sound brave.
The bear responded with a soft, muffled growl that sounded more like a contented purr. It then rolled onto its back, exposing a huge, round belly, inviting a belly rub. Percy, eyes sparkling with mischief, tiptoed closer and gently patted the bear’s soft fur.
“Wow, you’re really friendly,” Branwen whispered, her voice full of awe. “I think he just wants a new friend.”
The bear let out a happy snort and rolled onto its side, offering a big, furry paw as if inviting a handshake. Percy reached out and shook it, her smile wider than ever.
Just then, a faint rustling sound came from the underbrush. The friends froze, their eyes darting toward the trees. Had they just awakened something even bigger—or perhaps something even more mysterious?
The bear looked at them with a sleepy but watchful gaze. Whatever was lurking nearby, Branwen and Percy knew one thing for sure: their adventure was only just beginning. And now, with their new, gentle giant friend by their side, they couldn’t wait to see what surprises the farm had in store next.
